The Obama Administration has downgraded Mexico to Category 2. According to Reuters, The downgrade from Category 1 to Category 2 is not based on any safety practices at a specific airline. Category 2 typically means that aviation authorities have fallen short on technical expertise, personnel, record-keeping or inspection procedures.
So just watch out when flying to Mexico. And also watch out for some of the weasel words that will be used.

US airlines start withdrawing Codes from Mexican Airlines

Advisory: Mexico codeshare update
A change by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration in the rating of Mexico's civil aviation authority prohibits U.S. airlines from offering codeshare service on any Mexican airline. As required by this change, Delta will remove its code from AeroMexico flights, but will work proactively to reaccommodate any customers affected. Delta customers are still permitted to travel on AeroMexico but must be rebooked with an AeroMexico flight number to do so. We expect to be able to fully reaccommodate affected AeroMexico codeshare passengers with minimal impact to their travel plans. You can check the status of your future AeroMexico reservation here, or call your travel agency or Delta for more information. Delta's own flight operations to and from Mexico are not affected by this change. You can continue to book flights to Mexico with us as you always have.
